Virgo Solar Eclipse (New Moon) September 21, 2025 - Overarching Energy

Saying that September has been an active month would be an understatement. Between the eclipses, the outer planets, Pluto Out of Bounds, and the Mars-Jupiter square, we have seen these energies play out in events ranging from tragedies to the exposure of hidden stories about celebrities, politicians, and business leaders, as well as revolutionary changes in governments. This weekend brings our final eclipse of the year, and the astrology is intense. That does not mean your life will be filled with chaos or disruption. How this energy plays out for you may be very different from how it shows up in world events.

The Astrology Around the Solar Eclipse in Virgo

This is our second new moon in Virgo this year, and it is also an eclipse. The new moon is exact at 2:54 PM CDT, 29 degrees and 5 minutes. Virgo is the sign of analysis, taking in information and sorting it out. With the new moon, the past, your emotions, and your inner world rise to the surface as the Sun takes over. It is a time for tying up loose ends and releasing what is holding you back. A new moon can be beneficial as long as you allow yourself to process your emotions rather than fear them.

The eclipse adds extra emphasis, but keep in mind that unless you are living in New Zealand, a thin strip of Australia’s eastern coast, various Pacific islands, or parts of Antarctica, you will not feel its influence as strongly as you would if it were visible to you. Only 0.20% of the world’s population will have the opportunity to see this eclipse.

The unconscious mind is active under this new moon, tied into the collective energy of what is happening on Earth. Mercury is in Libra, conjunct with the new moon. Libra is about balance, so conversations may arise around working together and taking a cooperative approach, even when viewpoints are different. This is a good moon to address issues in relationships and have discussions about how to make a fresh start. My mother had what I call “momisms,” and one of them was this: there are three sides to every situation, your side, their side, and the truth, which is usually not fully represented on either side but lies somewhere in between.

The new moon is also in opposition to Saturn in Pisces and Neptune in Aries. Saturn in Pisces is not debilitated, but it carries heavy energy. It brings confusion around responsibility and can sometimes take on a martyr role or veer into avoidance. Neptune, the planet of sensitivity, escapism, and sacrifice, takes on a warrior stance in Aries. The energy aims for the greater good, regardless of the means, and can be rash and impulsive, paired with a planet that prefers to remain vague and idealistic. With the recent wave of violent events, this new moon may have us rethinking our views of culture and society, and reflecting on who is truly responsible for our current condition. The answer may be each and every one of us.

The new moon also makes a trine to Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius, forming a kite pattern (in fact, several overlapping kites, due to the Sun, Moon, and Mercury opposing Saturn and Neptune). Before pulling all of this energy together, let’s pause on Uranus in Gemini.

We also have Pluto in Aquarius, signaling the very beginning of reform. Uranus in Gemini is like the Tower card in Tarot. Uranus is sudden, sometimes chaotic, but always electrifying. It arrives as a wake-up call for change. Gemini is social, curious, and quick to communicate. At its worst, it can be gossipy, telling only part of the story and obscuring the full truth.

Uranus was in Gemini during major turning points in U.S. history, the Revolution, the Civil War, and WWII. It heralds great change. At its worst, Uranus in Gemini is scattered, but at its best, it is versatile, flexible, and adaptive. By contrast, Uranus in Taurus is stubborn, rooted in traditional and unchanging personal values. Uranus in Gemini can help us see other perspectives. That does not mean changing your mind, but it does mean recognizing multiple vantage points. This energy can help you reprioritize before Uranus reenters Taurus in November.

Then we have Pluto, which brings transformative opportunities. Aquarian themes of individuality and humanitarianism emerge. Ask yourself: are you embracing the complexity of Aquarian energy? What does it mean to be independent and nonconformist while also embracing ideals that benefit humanity?

Aquarius often expresses itself in extremes. On one side is the person who champions social causes, such as ensuring no one goes hungry. On the other is the person who fights for individual rights, ensuring everyone can be who they want to be. Where we often misunderstand Aquarius is in how society and governments encourage conformity. In response, we fall into groups that align with our ideals.

Now let’s put this kite pattern together. At the top of the kite sit Neptune and Saturn, blending their energies to show us that our view of the world may not be accurate. Saturn is structured, while Neptune reveals that multiple realities exist. Opposite them, the new moon and Mercury invite us to reflect on our current perception of reality. Uranus reminds us that we are in a time of profound change, and likely of information overload, while Pluto intensifies power struggles and conflict.

These are heavy times, and it can feel as if the floor may give way beneath us at any moment. But history shows us that it is in moments like this that humanity rises to the occasion, reforms, and makes great strides toward change.

I would love to tell you that the rest of the energy is easier, but unfortunately I cannot. Mars, the planet of action, is square Pluto, the planet of power, while in opposition to Chiron. This is emotionally charged, volatile energy. Does that mean you will lose your temper during the eclipse? No. But it does mean the energy of fighting is in the air, and you may hear more about violence or accidents in the wider world.

The challenge with the Mars and Pluto square is that instigators can more easily draw others into their fight. This is where we each need to step back and reflect on our values. What is truly worth fighting for, and what is not? Even though the kite offers opportunities to think things through, Mars is not patient. Knowing in advance what you want to be part of matters, since working with allies can help you achieve your goals.

I am not condoning violence. Sometimes we are put in positions where we must defend ourselves, and that is Mars and Pluto energy at work. Egos flare, frustrations rise, and opponents may use secretive or underhanded tactics.

Chiron’s involvement adds another layer, as old wounds may resurface and new ones may form. For many of us, it is best to avoid dangerous people and places. I also expect to see large protests during the new moon. In some ways, this could soften the energy, because crowds that large make it harder for those intent on violence to act without risk to themselves.

With that said, Mars and Pluto can also be productive. If you steer clear of conflict, this energy can drive you to complete tasks, such as beautifying your home, reorganizing files, or doing a deep clean. If you have pent-up energy, channel it into something constructive. This square lasts until the end of the month, but the good news is that October begins without the same tensions.

Jupiter is also trine Saturn, supporting long-term goals while handling daily responsibilities. You may want to spend time on project planning this weekend. If you are with others, you might feel protective or paternal, wanting to guide and support them. This is a time for reflection, learning, and envisioning the road ahead.

Overall, this eclipse weekend will feel intense for those in power struggles or conflicts, but it carries important lessons. Beyond shifting your perspective and adjusting how you process information, the New Moon in Virgo alongside the North Node in Pisces is about building confidence and taking risks despite fear. It is about stepping away from judgment and choosing compassion. Welcome change and trust that even in dark moments, a positive outcome is possible. Value the small things and the connections you share with others, even if it is as simple as a mutual love for your parents, children, or siblings.

The day after the eclipse, the Autumnal Equinox arrives at 1:20 PM CDT. Virgo season has been about sorting through information and identifying what keeps you unbalanced or unhealthy. As Libra season begins, you are invited to embrace equilibrium. Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, which reminds us that we are shifting from the processing mind to the harmonious heart.

I often hear the question, “When will this all end?” The truth is, it ends when we collectively want it to end. This decade will bring waves of intense energy, like September, as well as quieter moments. We are in an era of big changes.
