Self/Other: Aries/Libra or Leo/Aquarius?

I’ve seen both sets of sister signs be used to represent the relationship between self and other, but which is more accurate? Or if the shoe fits either way, what are the distinctions between the two? And why is it about fire and air that goes with this dichotomy?

With Aries versus Leo, I have no clue. The Sun, which people say represents the self (but also the ASC?), is domicile in Leo and exalts in Aries. Aries gets knocked for being impulsive and inconsiderate, while Leo gets knocked for being prideful and self-absorbed? I’ve heard that Sun is at home in Leo because Leo’s all about a great and consistent outpouring of energy. The same way the Sun shines every single day with ease. Also, that it’s the high point for daylight and heat in the Northern hemisphere. But, Sun exalts in Aries because unlike Leo, it’s not limited by the need for consistency, to uphold and display a greatness. Mars’ influence makes Aries quicker and scrappier. Fall down 9 times, get up 10 and there’s no shame in that. Jump on the opportunities and fight through the obstacles. Aries is spring, when the light and life make a breakthrough in the fight against darkness and death.

I’m not too sure about Libra versus Aquarius either. Libra is a scale, it strives for fairness and harmony between opposites. I think that’s why Saturn is exalted there. In a funny way, Libra is as contentious as Scorpio and Aries. It just deflects attention and prefers to create win-win situations. Also, another resonance with Saturn I think, is that Libra is a bit alien. Libra doesn’t identify with one side of the scale over the other, it identifies with the balance. It identities with coming together to decide what’s fair because you can reap the benefits of a harmonious union. What I’m trying to say is that the concept of others is essential to Libra. There is no Libra without the other. Then there’s Aquarius. Honestly, I barely understand Aquarius, but I’ll give it a go. Aquarius is ruled by Saturn. Saturn rules the opposition, it opposes the Sun. Saturn is associated with eccentrics, outcasts, and lower classes. I’ve heard people say that if Leo is the King, then Aquarius is the kingdom. If Leo is the performer, then Aquarius is the audience. Aquarius is a kind of other, but I can’t describe how.

So, what do you all think?
