Mark Twain’s Wisdom

Today we give a big happy to Sam Clemens, one of the funniest wise men in history. I found a few quotes. I’m pretty much in agreement with all of them but one.

1. “Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.”

2. “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”

3. “It is better to keep your mouth closed & let people think you are a fool than to open it & remove all doubt.”

4. “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”

5. “Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.”

6. “The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter.”

7. “There are basically two types of people. People who accomplish things, and people who claim to have accomplished things. The first group is less crowded.”

8. “Good friends, good books, & a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.”

9. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause & reflect.”

10. “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear.”
