The concept of house

How exactly did astrologers come up with the concept of houses? What made them associate the 5th house with creativity/children etc for example? I can understand what the planets symbolise and why since they are physical bodies that ''have energies'' but I am confused with the houses because they seem to be a mental concept.

Diana Garland and Bracha Goldsmith have both youtube channels with multiple 10k followers and used to upload astrology content on a regular basis for years. However they both stopped at some point & we never posted on their platforms anymore!
