New to astrology slight confusion

What is the difference between a planet being in a certain sign and that planet being in a house, but that house is a different sign then the planet?

So like Mars being in Virgo and in the 10th house but the 10th house being in a different sign like Gemini?

I’m confused on how to look at that. Does all of this just work together? Sorry if the question is confusing.

Diana Garland and Bracha Goldsmith have both youtube channels with multiple 10k followers and used to upload astrology content on a regular basis for years. However they both stopped at some point & we never posted on their platforms anymore!
